Research Associate, Global Centre for Environment and Energy
Shaurya Patel works at the intersection of global climate governance, urban sustainability, and policy research, applying insights from the science-policy interface to advance global and local climate solutions. He is a Chapter Scientist for Chapter 5: Solutions by City Types and Regions in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Climate Change and Cities (SRCities) and serves as a Research Associate at the Global Centre for Environment and Energy (GCEE), Ahmedabad University, India.
His work applies mindfulness, systems thinking, empirical research, and governance frameworks to advance climate action at multiple scales. He has supported scientific and operational processes during the crucial Sixth Assessment Cycle of the IPCC Working Group III (WGIII) Technical Support Unit (TSU), contributing to key climate research efforts and led advocacy efforts as the 2024 Contact Point for the Mitigation Working Group of YOUNGO under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) at COP29.
Previously, he contributed to urban resilience and climate equity projects at CEPT University, India. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from CEPT University and a Master’s degree in Politics and International Relations from Pandit Deendayal Energy University, India, and is awaiting confirmation of his Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Law and Policy. His academic background and professional experience shape his dedication to developing transformative solutions for global sustainability challenges.
