His main interest is the microbial consortia and understanding how they control the function of environmental and engineered systems. At his department, they study microbial diversity and functional traits from species to ecosystems including factors controlling community assembly and dynamics and apply a range of complementary approaches from DNA-based community surveys, (meta)genomics, and metabolic reconstruction, to the use of isotopes, confocal microscopy, and Raman microspectroscopy. He has a Master’s in Microbiology and a PhD in Environmental Science.
