Greet Janssens-Maenhout is Deputy Director of the Sustainable Resources Directorate of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre in Ispra. Since 2021 Greet leads the Forests and Bioeconomy unit, with a focus on forest science and biogenic carbon. She keeps strong links with the European Environment Agency, the European Space Agency and former international IPCC colleagues. She has a scientific background in greenhouse gas monitoring, having led for a decade the Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research and having cofounded the Earth observation monitoring and verification support of greenhouse gases. She holds a master’s degree in engineering sciences and a Ph.D. in thermo-fluid dynamics from the University of Karlsruhe and she is a professor at the University of Ghent.
