Shekhar Singh is a distinguished civil servant with a strong background in engineering and a passion for sustainable development. He holds an illustrious educational background, having graduated from the prestigious IIT Guwahati and completed his postgraduate studies in structural engineering at the University of California (Berkeley, the US). With a career marked by dedicated public service, Shekhar Singh has held significant positions in various districts before assuming his role as the Municipal Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in August 2022. Notably, he has served as the Collector in Satara and Gadchiroli, gaining valuable administrative experience along the way. In addition to his role as Municipal Commissioner, Shekhar Singh has taken on the responsibilities of CEO at Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Ltd. and Chairperson of Auto Cluster Development and Research Institute (ACDRI).

Shekhar Singh’s interests align with his active involvement in several critical areas of urban development. His leadership has catalyzed numerous urban projects, including the Harit Setu Master Plan, aimed at creating sustainable and accessible mobility and revitalizing public spaces and streets. Furthermore, he has championed the establishment of a Sustainability Cell to align PCMC’s development with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He has also been at the forefront of promoting electric vehicles (EVs) in the city and exploring innovative finance mechanisms to support PCMC’s growth. Shekhar Singh’s dedication to empowering young girls and women is evident through his efforts to establish skilling centers in the city.

Throughout his career, Shekhar Singh has garnered numerous accolades and achievements. Notable among these are his recognition as the Best District Collector for outstanding performance under the Mazi Vasundhara Abhiyaan initiative and awards received for his contributions to the Poshan Abhiyan Jan Andolan and skill development schemes. Under his leadership, PCMC has received international recognition, with the city being one of the ten recipients of the prestigious $400,000 award from the Bloomberg Initiative for Cycling Infrastructure for the Harit Setu project. PCMC has also secured top honors in various categories, including its first-place ranking in Majhi Vasundhara and the Smart Sarathi app being awarded second place in the governance category at the India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) 2022. He also played a pivotal role in launching PCMC’s first Municipal bond to fund the River rejuvenation project.
