Like many in my generation, I can’t help but feel a sense of hopelessness when considering the future of our planet. However, this doesn’t stop me from doing what I can to give back to our home. For starters, I love thrift shopping. I’m giving things another life by buying used, and it’s cheaper too. I also avoid buying single-use plastics when I can. Having a reusable water bottle and reusable shopping bags are simple actions that save tons of waste from going to overfilled land dumps or ending up in our oceans.
The future I want
I wish to see a future committed to renewable energy and an emphasis on local, biodegradable consumption. I think many believe it is too hard or expensive to lead a sustainable lifestyle, however, we can accomplish a lot if everyone committed to one thing that would decrease their carbon footprint. I’d also like to see governments across the world step up their sustainability initiatives, particularly the United States.
